The RCUK’s new Policy on Open Access, which came into effect on 1st April, aims to make all journal and conference publications funded by RCUK available as Open Access within the next 5 years. The target set for the first year (2013-14) is 45%. A project is underway to develop systems and processes to underpin this requirement as well as provide support services to researchers. Initiated by the University’s Working Group on Open Access and funded by pump-priming money allocated by the government, the Project is led by the University Library and the Project Board includes representatives from each Faculty, as well as senior administration staff. The Project Team have already carried out initial analysis of publishing behaviour at the University, and will be meeting with Research Directors, research staff and postgraduate students in all Schools over the coming weeks to explain procedures and offer guidance.
