Seminar Series: First International Seminar on Learning Sciences (5-6th April 2013, Spain)

Dear Colleague,

It is my pleasure to write to you about the third series of sessions of the First International Scientific Seminar in Learning Scienceshttp://www.uic.es/en/international-scientific-seminar-in-learning-sciences

These two sessions will take place on 5 and 6 April 2013 in the Faculty of Education at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) in Barcelona. The seminar “Grounding the Best Schools in Cutting Edge Research ” discusses fundamental research questions about interaction and learning that are currently being investigated in the field of the learning sciences. The sessions we already had with Professors Anne Edwards (University of Oxford), Courtney B. Cazden (Harvard University), Linda Hargreaves (University of Cambridge), Ramon Flecha and Marta Soler (Universitat de Barcelona) have been very successful and have demonstrated the high scientific quality of the seminar.

Next April 5th, Dr. Racionero, scientific director of the First International Scientific Seminar in Learning Sciences, will analyze in depth how to organize classrooms to accelerate learning through interaction, promoting at the same time socio-cultural transformation. She will focus on the particular case of classrooms organized into Interactive Groups. Next day, April 6, Dr. Carol Lee, former president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), from Northwestern University, will analyze a theory of Cultural Modeling for the design and enactment curriculum that draws on all students’ cultural intelligence.

Each of these sessions will have two parts. The first one (from 10am to 2pm) will consist of a presentation and discussion in depth by the leading learning scientist. This presentation will lay the foundation of the state of the art about a central research in the learning sciences. The second part of the seminar (Friday: 3-7pm, Saturday: 3-6’30pm) will consist of a scientific dialogue between the researcher and the participants that will be grounded on the readings that the speaker will have selected in advance in order to ensure relevant discussion. These readings will be sent to the participants before the seminar.

The April 5th session will be in Spanish and the April 6th session will be in English. The price per session includes lunch.

I look forward to meeting you in person at an event that is moving the science of learning forward.

Best regards,
