Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2013 is now OPEN! Have your say!

We are writing to you to encourage you to participate in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2013. The PRES is an online questionnaire and it will be live from 5 March – 16 May 2013. You can access the survey using your personalised link sent to your university email account.

Alternatively you can access the survey via My Manchester.  Your feedback is vital in helping us as a University to understand what we are doing well and what we can do better to improve your research experience as one of our postgraduate research students. Feedback from the 2011 survey suggested that postgraduate researchers felt that the survey was too long and that some of the questions weren’t relevant.

We have listened to your feedback and lobbied the Higher Education Academy on your behalf to improve the survey.  As a result, PRES 2013 has been shortened and should only take 15 minutes to complete.

The survey is also more focussed to help you provide specific feedback on your experience. We can assure you that the results of the survey will be taken very seriously by each of us and by colleagues responsible for supporting and developing the environment and experience of our postgraduate research students both present and future. Examples of just a few of the actions which have been put in place within Faculties since receiving feedback in the 2011 PRES survey include:

  • New postgraduate societies to bring PGR students together across disciplines, provide a more focussed PGR community and give PGR students a collective voice
  • Dedicated postgraduate space eg: MHS PG hub to improve networking, integration and sense of belonging for the PGR community.  The hub is for the sole use of postgraduate students for work, training and socialising
  • Integration of PGR students into staff research groupings to better connect PGR students with the wider research community
  • Introduction of PGR conferences, PGR blogs, bulletins etc to help keep you better informed

We would strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to have your say about what you do and don’t like about your postgraduate research experience.

If you have any questions about PRES, please contact your local Postgraduate Research Administrator in the first instance or you can email for further information.  Best wishes and many thanks for your co-operation.
