My name is Khalil and I am the Campaigns officer at Manchester students’ union. We’re putting on an event (see below) and were wondering if you could possibly send an email about to your students just to let them know about it?
We’d hugely appreciate it and feel that the issues explored (the challenges that young people face in this time of austerity) would be complimentary to your students’ set curriculum.
All the best,
The Lost Generation – How Britain Bankrupted Its’ Youth
£9,000 fees mean we’ll be paying off graduate debt until we’re 50 – and that’s only if we’re lucky enough to find a job. There are 1.4 million young people who are unemployed. This talk from high-profile speakers will cover the challenges that young people face in the age of austerity.
-Shiv Malik – Guardian journalist and author of the book ‘Jilted Generation: How Britain Bankrupted Its Youth’.
-Rachel Wenstone – Vice President for Higher Education at the National Union of Students.
-Lisa Ansell – Journalist for the Guardian, the New Statesman and nominated for the Orwell Prize.
-Jérémie béernard-Wien – Student officer from a Canadian students’ union that successfully campaigned against tuition fees.
-Mike Dillon – a firefighter from Moss Side who runs a boxing club for young people, helping to get them out of gangs.
-Plus: A student doing Youth and Community Work at Manchester, whose course is getting shut down.
Friday 19th Oct at 5:30-6:30pm in the council chambers of the students’ union.
