The BERA Socio-cultural and Cultural-Historical Activity Theory SIG is collaborating with the BERA Mathematics Education SIG to put on a one-day mini-conference in Leeds prior to BERA 2011. This mini-conference is intended to provide an opportunity for those who are going to the bi-annual ISCAR conference on socio-cultural activity in Rome, which overlaps with the BERA conference in London, to present their papers to their UK colleagues. This event also allows those of us going to BERA and not ISCAR this year to hear what our colleagues will be presenting in Rome!
We are pleased to have Julian Williams, Paul Hernandez-Martinez, Sophina Qasim, Irene Kleanthous share with us their ISCAR symposium presentation on ‘Bourdieu and Activity theory: challenges and syntheses’ and also a paper to be presented by Mabel Encinas entitled ‘The study of emotions: a Vygotskian perspective’.
The S-CHAT and Maths Ed event will be held on 27 July in Leeds, from 10:30 to 3:00 at the Leeds Social Sciences Institute. Lunch will be provided.
Please RSVP to Valerie Fansworth so we can confirm numbers for catering. We will use the RSVP list to circulate further details on the event location closer to the date of the event.
All are welcome, although SIG members are eligible for reasonable travel expenses in relation to attending the event. The expense forms can be obtained from the BERA offices, but please notify us of any expenses you would like reimbursed so we can monitor our budget (a maximum £400 subsidy for the event).
Please RSVP by 22 July if you plan to attend.
