We are pleased to invite papers from across the School of Education for the eighth Student Research Conference at Manchester University.
The day offers the opportunity to mix with professionals who are engaged in research from Counselling, Education and Educational Psychology and we hope that from this we are able to develop a network of research practitioners at the University. Although we come from a variety of disciplines, there are common overlaps both in methodology and topic, discussion across professions is hoped to develop our sense of a ‘research community’ at the University.
Papers might have a particular focus on practice issues, research themes or methodologies and it is fine to present a completed project, work in progress or research plans and proposals. Students in the past have also used the day to pilot a research idea or use the day for a ‘live’ research session.
This year we are pleased to include a slot at the opening of the day for poster presentations, with opportunities to meet presenters at their stands over lunch. Paper presentations will last for 30 minutes (including 10 minutes for questions at the end) and the day will be split into related themes, one of which will be devoted to the process of undertaking a Doctorate at the University from planning through to the viva and completion.
This is a seldom opportunity for all of those undertaking research to come together and share writing, findings, resources and concerns. We would welcome papers from all of the following courses:
All counselling students
All Ph.D. and M.Sc. students
All Professional Doctorate students
Feedback from last year’s conference was very positive and participants reported that the day gave them an excellent opportunity to:
- Mix with like minded professionals
- Share research ideas and network
- Develop writing skills for journals
- Practice presentation skills in a relatively informal environment in preparation for other Conferences
- Plan for CPD activities and hear about other courses and day schools at The University
- Have fun!
